Dal Palak

ADVENTURES IN SPICE

Indian food is one of my favorite cuisines, second or third to Mexican and Szechuan, but I haven’t really tried making any. I had some lentils left over from making my grandmother’s lentil soup (which is for another post), and some spices from making pastilla (a Moroccan savory/sweet pie that I might make again and write about when I do), and so I figured I’d give dal a try. Chicken Soup

GOOD FOR WHAT AILS YOU

Way back when I was just a little bitty boy, my grandmother would make chicken soup. “Big deal”, you say, “everyone’s grandmother made chicken soup”. Since I have all this sourdough starter lying around, I figured I’d try my hand at it. Continue reading “Semolina Sourdough”

It was really good bread, but I never felt I really had time to make it. My friend Kat from work gave me some starter last week, and I thought I would try it again. Continue reading “Sourdough”

Lasagna

LAYERS UPON LAYERS

Mozzarella and ricotta were on sale at my local supermarket, which is the best excuse I can think of to make lasagna. This one I kind of adapted on my own from my dad’s “meat sauce” (kind of a Bolognese, but far less fiddly), with some techniques I learned from my college flatmate.  It’s not traditional, but it’s tasty.
